Access to Information: The Freedom of Information Act
Information about the National Gallery and its collections can be found on this website and in publications available from the National Gallery and other outlets.
From January 2005, information is available to the public in response to Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations requests.
The Freedom of Information Publication Scheme (PDF 416k) explains how to access information about the Gallery with relevant links, but you may find answers to some queries on the Frequently Asked Questions page.
Requests for information should be made to the Information Department and should provide as much detail as possible to enable Gallery staff to identify the information sought. If you require the information in a particular format, for example, as a photocopy or on computer disk, this should also be stated in your application.
If you have difficulty in identifying the precise information you require Gallery staff will be pleased to help.
Archival material is available by appointment with the Libraries and Archive Department.
