The National Gallery is collaborating with Ravensbourne College of Design and Communication on 'Transcriptions: Sound’, an innovative new project which involves third-year sound design students producing a three-minute response to a painting of their choice in the Gallery's collection.

From the sound artist:

The emphasis in my sound response was to create a change in atmosphere suggested by the painting. I imagine the painting to be a recollection by the painter. After being lost and walking alone through the solemn woodland, he enters this sacred, peaceful haven. The stag represents nobility and stillness; the birdsong heard in his subconscious changes. Suddenly the woodland is not as dark and gloomy as he first perceived...
