The National Gallery has an unrivalled collection of Western European paintings dating from about 1250, including works by Leonardo da Vinci, Rembrandt, Van Gogh and Monet.
The course will examine the different ways in which artists of the past and present have been inspired by the collection to create their own work.
It will also explore how the collection can be used to inspire work in the classroom. There will be a special focus on Edward and Nancy Keinholz’s controversial installation ‘The Hoerengracht’ and its connection to traditional Dutch painting.
