Abstract
The pigment of three Impressionist paintings, Monet's 1877 Gare St-Lazare, Renoir's 1875 La Yole, and Cézanne's late-1870s Hillside in Provence, in the National Gallery, London, were analysed using the laser microprobe optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction. A brief history of the paintings is given in every case, together with comments on painting technique and build up of paint layers.
