The sound pieces on this new tour have all been created in direct response to paintings in the collection. They allow an imaginative engagement with works and provide an opportunity for visitors to consider the ways in which painters suggest sound.
They include commissions from sound artists Jem Finer, Simon Fisher Turner, David Toop and Chris Watson, alongside the best work by students who have participated in a new Gallery project, Transcriptions: Sound.
This is an in-depth audio trail into one of the most exciting periods in art history, from the Impressionist masterpieces of Monet and Renoir to iconic paintings from Van Gogh and Cezanne.
Hear curators, scientific and conservation staff talking about the techniques used to create some of the masterpieces in the National Gallery Collection. Get beneath the surface of the paintings; find out what has been discovered using x-rays and modern scientific techniques.
This trail features an eclectic mix of interviewees talking about National Gallery pictures that have inspired them to write, sculpt, paint and even cook.
