Le Temps retrouvé (Time Regained)

Raoul Ruiz, 1999
colour, cert 18, 162 mins

Saturday 15 November, 2.30pm
Sainsbury Wing Theatre

Chilean film-maker Raoul Ruiz directs arguably the most successful and ambitious adaptation of Marcel Proust’s 'A la recherche du temps perdu' ('Remembrance of Things Past'). The critic Alexander Walker declared the film: ‘A great work... A cine-literary miracle’.

Nearing the end of his days, the reclusive Marcel moves through an at once real and imagined world, recalling past experiences from childhood to maturity.

Among those he encounters are Charles Swann (Bernard Paitrat) and his wife Odette (Catherine Deneuve), the war hero Saint-Loup (Pascal Greggory), the beautiful Gilberte (Emmanuelle Béart), and the pleasure-seeking Baron de Charlus (John Malkovich).
