Compared to the Netherlands, the UK has a longstanding and internationally renowned fashion industry with names like Savile Row, Carnaby street and London Fashion Week.

The Dutch entered the international fashion world fairly recently, in the early nineties. Soon afterwards the first Amsterdam Fashion week in 2004 became an international platform for young designers.

This discussion will address the differences between the UK and the Netherlands, looking at the influence that history, style and cultural markers has had on fashion in both countries.

Speakers

  • José Teunissen, Professor of Fashion theory at ArtEZ Insitute of Arts Arnhem, Netherlands and Visiting Professor of the London College of Fashion
  • Matthijs van Bergen, Dutch fashion designer and entrepeneur.

In collaboration with the London College of Fashion
