Help and guidance for National Gallery APIs
Help and guidance for using the National Gallery's interoperable data and APIs: where the data is, how to access it, and what it contains.
Welcome
Welcome to the National Gallery's interoperable data resources. These are currently under development, and the available data and related documentation will evolve as individual endpoints are finalised. Our intention is to provide data using the following methods and protocols:
- An Elasticsearch endpoint, delivering JSON data in a bespoke structure
- IIIF
- An OAI-PMH server
We are also considering providing a SPARQL endpoint and a Linked Art API.
Licences
To encourage the use and reuse of our collection data, they are released under the following dedications and licences:
- Structured data (as opposed to narrative texts) are released under a Creative Commons Zero dedication (CC0)
- Descriptions, notes and all other narrative text content are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY)
- Images are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 4.0 licence (CC BY-NC-ND)
