About

When early viewers saw Constable’s 'The Hay Wain' they found his vision of the Suffolk landscape to be radical. Today, over 200 years later, the painting is considered a traditional image of the English countryside. This changed perception has led artists and activists to reinterpret, edit, and react to the painting — particularly in light of our changing climate.

Join us for a morning talk on 'Discover Constable and The Hay Wain'. We'll be hosting two sessions: the first for the early risers who crave some pre-work inspiration and morning motivation. Followed by a second session for those wanting a kickstart introduction to the exhibition before it opens. Emma Matthews will be your guide in this exclusive, out-of-hours morning talk. Your ticket includes tea and coffee.

Your host

After a successful legal career, Emma Matthews set up an art tours business in 2007, while doing an History of Art degree, moving on to guiding full time in 2016. Her passion for the Gallery's collection comes through in her tours, in which she is constantly developing new ways of looking at art and understanding its meaning.
