About
Still-life paintings capture just a moment in time - some real, some imagined. In this special Members’ event, curator Bart Cornelis invites you to look closely at these painted objects.
We are perhaps most familiar with 17th-century still-life paintings: the vibrant flowers of Rachel Ruysch or Jan Brueghel the Elder. From a simple display of objects to lavish banquets, artists showcased their skill in painting textures, colour and light. Still life has cycled in and out of popularity ever since.
Celebrate these beautifully crafted still life paintings with curator Bart Cornelis. Take a closer at one theme of our redisplayed collection, ‘C C Land: The Wonder of Art’, at this online Curator's hour with Q&A.
