About
Join exhibition curator Christine Siedel for an exclusive Members’ introduction to ‘The Carracci Cartoons: Myths in the Making’.
The Carracci cartoons offer a window into the creative process of and the techniques used by the Carracci brothers, Annibale and Agostino. They’ve taken on the massive commission to decorate the rooms of the great Farnese Palace. But before they paint the walls, they create detailed sketches of their plans. These cartoons – derived from the Italian ‘cartone’, meaning a large sheet of paper – are remarkable survivors of art in the making.
Christine invites Members on a journey as the brothers begin work on the palace’s vast gallery. These works are the preparatory drawings for a monumental fresco, but they are works of art in their own right.
In this online talk, Christine introduces 'The Carracci Cartoons: Myths in the Making’ with an opportunity to ask questions at the end.
