About

In this workshop, through collage, print and drawing, alongside artist Fran Copeman you will explore narratives and histories of commemoration, gathering, and storytelling in National Gallery paintings and beyond around the UK.  We will take inspiration from historical and mythological scenes of gathering and commemoration in the collection as well as contemporary documentation of community and folklore events. Fran will help each participant develop a unique final work that combines collage and drawing to create personal narratives and scenes of gathering and connection on paper.

All materials will be provided including printed images of artworks from the National Gallery’s collection, folk festivals, documentation of community and folklore related events as printouts sites of commemoration and gathering – you are also welcome to bring your own reference materials.

This Event is organised in conjunction with ‘The Triumph of Art’, our nationwide commission with artist Jeremy Deller, supported by Art Fund.
