About

A requiem for the commons, heaths and greens once key to East Anglian village life, Justin Hopper and Laura Cannell present a new performance inspired by the language of ‘inclosure’ – one of the most consequential practices of rural life in John Constable’s time.

‘A Celebration of the General’ reworks 19th-century primary-source historical texts into new poems and chants, set to composed and improvised music with new visuals created by artists Tom Eglington, to mourn the loss of the commonly held land.
