Members' Preview Day: The Roden Centre for Creative Learning
About
We have some very exciting news as part of our NG200 celebrations...
The National Gallery today announces the brand new Roden Centre for Creative Learning; a transformed space that allows us to be far more ambitious with our educational offer and become the nation’s art studio.
We're inviting our Members to preview the space, and listen to architect, Hannah Lawson, joined by Karen Eslea (Head of Learning and National Programmes), in conversation about the design inspiration and the aims of this project.
The talk is a great opportunity to understand the principles and importance of art education within a gallery with contributions from organisations and schools. It will cover the functionality of each new space, from the Clore Art Studio to the Creative Space, and our inspiring new programme of practical courses for adults. Most interestingly, Lawson and Eslea will touch on the creative process: the challenges, realities and triumphs.
The Roden Centre for Creative Learning can be accessed via a dedicated entrance on Orange Street.
Event timings
- 10am - doors open
- 11am - In conversation with Hannah Lawson and Karen Eslea (and short Q&A)
- 12pm - In conversation ends
Once the event finishes you're invited to stay in the space and take part in a free Colour Lab (see details below).
Gallery Educators and members of the Learning team will also be on hand to say hello and to share details of upcoming courses for all ages and levels.
The Colour Lab
Come and explore traditional processes that artists carry out in our new studio: the Clore Art Studio. We will be working with natural materials, mixing and naming our own colours and creating a piece together.
