About

Every painting in the Gallery means something different to each of us. Everyone brings their own histories, tastes and backgrounds when they look at and think about art.  It’s curious to think why a certain piece affects someone so profoundly and for another it might do nothing.

Curator and writer Susan Bright invites people from across all areas of the cultural sector to choose their favourite work of art in the Gallery. Together they will discuss why, and what it is, that makes a certain painting their ‘favourite’. The history, context or the technique of the painting might be considered, but at the heart of these conversations is the life beyond the object. Bringing out stories of childhood, physical reactions and imagination, exploring why there is a connection and why that matters.
