About

Aliki Braine leads this reflective session on ‘Discover Degas and Miss La La’ in the days before this exhibition closes.

‘Miss La La at the Cirque Fernando’ shows the incredible talent of circus artist Miss La La, or Anna Albertine Olga Brown (1858-1945), and Degas’s own skill as it captures her acrobatic flight. She holds nothing more than a leather mouthpiece with her teeth. Degas captures her arms thrown out wide against the backdrop of the domed circus roof.

This exhibition brought Miss La La into focus. Take a final moment to contemplate Miss La La, Degas’s relationship with the Cirque Fernando, and the creative process that brought this painting to life.

Art historian Aliki Braine leads this reflective session. We will consider the themes of the exhibition and your own experiences. There will be an opportunity to ask questions and share your own reflections at this online Members’ talk.
