About
Before ‘The Carracci Cartoons: Myths in the Making’ closes, contemplate the beautiful cartoons one last time.
In this online Members’ event and Q&A, art historian and artist Gayna Pelham will look at the impressive cartoons made by the Carracci brothers, Annibale and Agostino, in preparation for painting the Farnese Palace. They’ve taken on the massive commission to decorate the rooms of the great Farnese Palace. But before they paint the walls, they create detailed sketches of their plans. These cartoons - derived from the Italian ‘cartone’, meaning a large sheet of paper - are remarkable survivors of art in the making.
Gayna invites Members to reflect on these incredible drawings and their role in the making of such monumental frescos.
Hear Gayna’s insights and share reflections of your own, with an opportunity to ask questions at the end of this interactive session.
