Lecturer Katy Tarbard and artist educator Alex Bowie explore Duccio's 'The Healing of the Man born Blind', currently featured in our exhibition 'Siena: The Rise of Painting'.
First, listen to a brief talk, then respond by making your own work in this short, artist-led drawing session. Please have to hand a sharp pencil, paper and a rubber.
The session will take place online and will last about one hour.
Sometimes we might suggest using different drawing or craft materials, so, if you are able to, please keep a pencil case of different colours, a ruler and a pair of scissors nearby, as well as anything else you might like to experiment with. On this occasion a small plate to draw around, or something similar size, would also be helpful.
This session will be accompanied by live speech-to-text transcription supported by Stagetext.
Speakers
Alex Bowie is a Scottish visual artist with a background in socially engaged art projects, arts education and the therapeutic use of the arts within community, education and healthcare settings. Before joining the National Gallery’s Art Road Trip facilitation team she was the School Programme Manager at Dulwich Picture Gallery and has delivered creative projects and interventions for the Brixton Project, A New Direction, Create London, The MacRobert Arts Centre and Glasgow Life among others.
Katy Tarbard has over 20 years of teaching and programming experience in gallery education departments, working to connect visitors of all ages with their love of artworks. Her areas of interest include the history of the National Gallery Collection and its methods of display. Her favourite artists include Titian, Turner and Van Gogh.
