Tavaziva Dance is an artist-led company, founded by Bawren Tavaziva in 2004, with a focus on producing innovative and contemporary new dance works and presenting this work to live audiences in both ‘conventional’ and ‘found’ spaces.
When Bawren Tavaziva arrived in the UK as a young dancer from Zimbabwe, the first place that he visited was the National Gallery and it holds significant meaning for him and the trajectory of his life and career in the UK.
Requiem, a new dance piece commissioned by the National Gallery to mark the opening of The Roden Centre for Creative Learning, is a story of arrival, of different peoples coming together, of learning through art, and of communion.
Tavaziva Dance
Bawren Tavaziva is a unique artist whose work brings ballet, contemporary and African dance together to create a style of work that is rarely seen in the UK. He also composes original music for his productions. 2024 marks Tavaziva Dance’s 20th anniversary, and the Company’s celebrated productions include: BOY’S KHAYA (2021-23); Izindava (2017-19); Africarmen (2015-17); and Greed (2013).
