Talk and Q&A
About
The National Gallery Artist in Residence 2024, Katrina Palmer, sees violence in many of the paintings that hang on our walls. They are made of fragile materials, but they are rich in perceived power.
At this online event, curator Priyesh Mistry introduces Katrina Palmer’s latest work, ‘The Touch Report’, a book which invites you to reconsider the National Gallery’s pictures through the artist’s words. Through unadorned descriptions in her work, Palmer explores the contrasting ideas of civilisation and violence in historic paintings and draws on the power of words over image.
Priyesh opens this work so you can contemplate the Gallery’s pictures and their stories in a new way, with an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the talk.
