Low-relief sculpted ox skulls, with the horns draped with floral garlands or fruit. They are normally found in the metopes of a Doric frieze. This form of decoration originated in the marble altars of Ancient Rome. It was commonly employed in classical architecture, and later in Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassical architecture.
