Leon Battista Alberti (1404–1472) was one of the key art theorists and architects of the Early Renaissance. He mainly wrote about architecture, mathematics and art. His work was highly influential for the development of Humanism in Florence. In his treaty 'De Pictura' ('On Painting Practice') written first in Latin (1435) and then translated into Italian, 'Della Pittura' (1436), Alberti writes about the education and development of Renaissance painters. He encouraged the use of perspective in paintings amongst all artists.
The Latin version of the 'De Pictura' was published in 1540 and the Italian version in 1547.
