The Salting Bequest was the gift of the eclectic collector George Salting to the National Gallery in 1910. It consisted of 192 paintings, the largest single gift ever made to the Collection. Works by Dutch and Flemish artists predominate and include a Cuyp, two portraits by Hals, Vermeer's 'Woman seated at a Virginal', and Campin's 'The Virgin and Child before a Fire Screen'. Salting as well as appreciating paintings was an avid collector of Chinese porcelain.
