Léon Fleury, 'View of the Villa Borghese', about 1827-30
About the work
Overview
This view shows part of the Villa Borghese in Rome, with the Casino del Muro Torto on the right and part of the Acqua Felice aqueduct on the left. The viewpoint has been carefully chosen in order to create a balanced composition. Fleury has positioned the path in the middle of the foreground, leaving our eye to follow its graceful curve upwards, around the rocks from the shaded foreground into the sunlit background.
