Description
Correspondence with Marshall Shortland solicitors concerning the recent death of Major A.E. Allnatt and the Gallery's subsequent need to decide whether to purchase one or more of the pictures that had been on loan from Allnatt. The terms of the loan agreement with Allnatt gave the Gallery the option of purchasing any or all of the pictures that were on loan. Notes made by Martin Davies debating the potential acquisition of the pictures. Notes on the potential acquisitions made by Lord Robbins (Trustee). Letters from Trustees discussing the pictures, including the question of whether the Caravaggio is genuine. Eventually the Gallery decides not to purchase the Ruysdael, Paolo Veneziano, Giorgione, Hals and Stubbs. Four pictures are accepted however, these decisions are communicated to the solicitors by letter on [24] February 1970.
