Detailed account of the evacuation of pictures, September 1938. Also letter from Olive Cook (Supervisor of Publications) to Margaret Freeman, 22 Aug 1939, re the imminent outbreak of war and preparations for the evacuation of pictures. Cook describes being required to make an inventory of the paintings as they were put into cases and the other girls being called upon to dismantle the library. "I can't believe the situation is serious, but I suppose in a place such as this one must prepare for the worst well in advance."
