Description
Trust fund papers including correspondence, accounts and receipts for purchased paintings. These papers illustrate the amounts bequeathed to the Gallery by various individuals, how each bequest was invested by the Gallery and the legal arrangements relating to each bequest. This collection also includes papers relating to Trust Fund administration and the investments associated with the Fund.

The establishment and running of trust funds for the National Gallery was initially the responsibility of the Gallery Keeper and Director, until increased development of the Gallery led to the establishment of individual departments that took on the responsibility for financial and development matters.
