Description
Letter from Lady Eastlake to Mr Boxall, offering for sale pictures collected by her husband Sir Charles during his directorship. Should the Gallery be interested in acquiring these, Sir Charles had instructed that they be offered to the NG at the same price they cost him to purchase. Lady Eastlake also asks whether the Trustees would be interested in acquiring the paintings her husband bought prior to his directorship, his collection of illustrated works, and his Library.
Nine of the pictures were acquired at the time, while several others were rejected, but later acquired by the gallery through other means.
