Description
One bound volume containing transcripts of the National Gallery's outgoing correspondence. All letters were written by the Keeper & Secretary, Charles Locke Eastlake, unless otherwise indicated, and many were written on behalf of the Director, Sir Frederic Burton.
Major developments covered in the correspondence include the extension at the rear of the Gallery, the widening of St Martin's Lane and the acquisition of Constable's 'The Hay Wain'.
