Description
The collection contains posters produced only by the National Gallery to advertise a range of Gallery activities, including exhibitions, acquisitions, Gallery facilities and events.
Dimensions vary: some posters are smaller than A3 in size (430 x 320mm), however the majority are 765 x 509mm. There are also several posters that measure 1015 x 764mm.
Unless otherwise stated all posters are on paper. While most of the flat posters are in a good condition there are some that have torn and creased edges. Any damaged posters are identified in the catalogue.

Administrative history
The majority of these posters have been produced by the National Gallery (Communications department) to publicise notable Gallery activities. 150th anniversary poster designed by Mike Francis added to the series when given as a gift by the artist in May 2013.
Custodial history
Folded posters have been retrieved from the History files. The remaining posters were deposited by the Information Department and by the Communications Department. Several posters were given to the archive by the V&A Word & Image Department.
