Description
This volume records all stock received into the Waterloo Place branch which was not sent from Manchester or Liverpool. Each entry is marked with a 'P', 'D', 'E' (Picture, Drawing, Engraving) or the number of articles received (for example, 11 volumes of Beaumont and Fletcher).
Information is written under these headings:
- Red mark (exhibition lot number) / When received / From whom received / Artist / Description / Cost / How disposed of / Sale price / Date of sale
Stock has been ordered according to the date acquired, and was then disposed either to Manchester, Liverpool, or straight to a client. It should be noted that the date of disposal is not necessarily accurate; a picture transferred from Waterloo on 27 Feb 1875, was actually recorded in the general picture stock book as having been received on 9th Feb 1875.
Finally the 'Cost' was not written in code (a sum total is recorded at the bottom of each page), and the 'Sale price' column (sometimes including a percentage) was only included from 1881.
