Description
Letters and notes relating to the attribution and provenance of a painting by Velasquez, as follows:
[1] Letter (28 May 1923) from William Locket Agnew to Charles [ ] of Thos. Agnew & Sons. Agnew refers to discussions he has had with Charles [ ] on the "Velasquez belonging to the Duke of Abercorn" and what he believes to be incorrect information regarding its exhibition and attribution by Aureliano de Beruete y Moret to Mazo, which Agnew believes leaves the firm of Agnew's in a "serious position."
[2] Included is a letter (14 Apr 1913) from Aureliano de Beruete y Moret, written in French, possibly to William Locket Agnew. The letter has additional comments pencilled in English contradicting his statements in the letter.
[3] Also included are four pages of handwritten notes regarding Aureliano de Beruete y Moret's letter, addressing its contents and stating that what he believes to be the Abercorn Velasquez actually belonged to the Marquess of Bristol.
