Letter 6 May 1890) from J.C. Robinson, H.M. Surveyor of Pictures, to [Sir William] Agnew regarding a conversation he has had with Agnew regarding "Leighton's intentions" regarding an "English gallery," proposes a meeting to be held at Agnew's gallery and refers to "the danger of jealousy arising in other quarters" regarding varying plans for the new gallery.
[Robinson proposed in The Times in April 1890 that a new National Gallery of British Art be located at Kensington Palace, with Agnew offering £10,000 in the same paper towards its construction there. Sir Frederic Leighton favoured South Kensington.]
Robinson refers to [Sir Henry] "Tate's gift to the nation" and states that it "should not be allowed to anticipate your actions."
