Description
Letter (29 Mar 1892) from Briton Rivière to Morland Agnew stating his numbers for private view tickets and that he is "depressed by what you say as to the demand for pictures." Rivière reflects anxiously upon a number of economic and social events affecting the market for modern artists, including the Baring Crisis of 1890, coal strikes and a number of "collections coming to Christies." Rivière also states his opinion that those buying works by George Romney purely as an investment will "live to see their error!"
