Description
A private and confidential letter from J.B. Manson (Director of the Tate, 1930-1938) to Flechtheim, on 9 Dec 1936, in which he asks for the latter's help acquiring a defence witness for a libel case against the Tate. The libel action was brought by Maurice Utrillo (French painter) who, although alive at the time, was recorded in a Tate catalogue as having died in 1934 as a confirmed dipsomaniac and after living many years under restraint.
