Description
The mounted/hinged letters in this group, the majority of which are addressed to Richard Ford, as well as a number of the loose letters in NGA48/2/2, share a common source, likely the Pencarrow Collection, formed by Mary Ford, née Molesworth (1816-1910) and auctioned at Sotheby's, 8 December 1999. Many leaves have been extra-illustrated with contemporary news clippings and photographs relating to the sender. It is evident from gaps in the foliation that the content is incomplete. Letters from the Pencarrow Collection were acquired by the previous owner from Christopher Edwards, Roy Davids and Quaritch Limited. See acquisition file for details.
