Description
File containing miscellanous notes and memoranda relating to Vertue's research interests extracted from various books (according to Horace Walpole, he 'wrote down everything he heard, saw, or read'); the sources are only occasionally recorded. The leaves in NGA52/1/2-3 may have been detached from one or more commplace books that Vertue compiled; surviving examples are in the British Library, Add. MS 23068-23074. Some of the books from which Vertue made extracts are found in the 1757 sale catalogue of his library.
