'The Death of the Virgin': A Technical Approach to an Art-Historical Problem

Jill Dunkerton
Technical Bulletin Volume 7, 1983

Abstract

Following the cleaning of The Death of the Virgin, catalogued as by an early 16th-century follower of Campin, the technical information gleaned was assessed to try and resolve the long-standing art-historical problem of its origin. In general, the data suggests only that the work might be of any period from the 15th to the 17th centuries, almost anywhere in most of Northern Europe.
