Associate Curator Sarah Herring explores the theme of young women looking into mirrors in art.
Join Sarah as she looks at Impressionist painter Eva Gonzalès's painting 'The Full-length Mirror', the first work of art by the artist to enter our collection. Using her artist sister as a model, Gonzalès's painting may be part of a long tradition of artists including Diego Velázquez and Berthe Morisot painting young women looking into mirrors, but Herring shows us the ways in which Gonzalès's scene is more nuanced. Find out what this less conventional interpretation tells us about the artist and her time.
