Analyses of Paint Media

Abstract

The media used in 11 European paintings, 14th–19th centuries, in the National Gallery, London, were analysed using gas chromatography and mass spectroscopy. Egg, egg-oil, oil, oil-resin, and oil possibly plus egg were found.
