Abstract
The results of an assessment of fluorescent lamps which was carried out at the National Gallery are described and compared. Under controlled conditions, five paintings were viewed by test subjects who were then questioned on the qualities of the illumination, the levels of detail, colour discrimination, and colour anomalies which they perceived.
