Abstract
Analyses of paint media by GC, GCMS, and on occasion FTIR are presented for 17 Italian artists (late 13th–early 18th centuries), seven German (late 15th – mid-17th centuries), three 17th-century Dutch, and eight French artists of the later 19th century. For the French artists, several paintings were examined in most cases. [Abstractor's note: some of these last results figure in essays, but not in tabular form, in 'Art in the Making: Impressionism', The National Gallery (1990)].
