Of Flemish origin, he was nicknamed Juan de Flandes (John of Flanders). He was active in the service of Queen Isabella of Castille in 1496 and from 1498 until her death in 1504. He is almost certainly identifiable with the Juan de Flandes who was later active in Salamanca and Palencia.
