Paul Gray

Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer


Paul began his career in arts and heritage in 1995 as a marketing specialist. After senior roles at Kew Gardens, Turner Contemporary in Margate, and Historic Royal Palaces, he joined the National Gallery Executive team in May 2018 and is now Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer. After undertaking the Getty Leadership programme in 2015, Paul has held non-executive director/trustee roles at Chelsea Physic Garden for eight years and has been a member of St Paul’s Cathedral Council for six years. He is the current Chair of Fulham Palace Trust.

My role as Deputy Director and Chief Operating Officer is to oversee the delivery of many of the Museum's business activities. I work closely and collaboratively with the Director and my Executive colleagues to help shape the vision and strategy of the Museum. I am responsible for the line management of three Directors and two Heads of Department that cover the following business functions: Finance & HR; Digital Innovation & Services; Communications & Public Affairs; Exhibitions, Learning & National Programmes; Operations & Visitor Engagement; and Estate Management. I act as the Senior Responsible Officer for all major capital projects and programmes.
