Gerard Houckgeest (about 1600–1661) was active between 1625 and 1650 in The Hague, where he was born, and Delft. Known for his architectural interiors and perspective views, particularly of churches, he was among the first to introduce oblique viewing angles and carefully observed lighting effects in his depictions of church interiors. In 1651 he settled in Bergen op Zoom, where he died in 1661.
