Pacher was a citizen of Bruneck in the Tyrol from 1467 to 1496. A painter and sculptor, his first known work was an altarpiece of 1465, now lost. He produced altarpieces in Gries, near Bolzano, St Wolfgang and Kloster Neustift in the 1470s and 1480s. 'The Virgin and Child Enthroned' in the Collection, which is attributed to Pacher, is dated to about the 1470s.
He worked in Salzburg in 1484, and again between 1496 and 1498, when he painted a high altarpiece for the Franciscan church there.
